Bakuchiol: a “news” with ancient roots.
Although the Western world barely knows it, Bakuchiol is an ancient ingredient that has been widely used in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine. From the psoralea corylifolia leaves and seeds – better known by their Sanskritic name Bakuchi or Babchi – we extract the oil that carries excellent properties from a cosmetic point of view.
Its antioxidant action regenerates the skin by supporting collagen synthesis and filling wrinkles. The outcome is a compact skin effect and fewer dark skin spots thanks to melanin regulation. Moreover, it is very effective on acne due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
Anyone working in our industry knows that Bakuchiol is not the only active ingredient featuring the properties mentioned above, but it is the safest alternative to retinol.
Bakuchiol VS retinol.
Even if they both affect the skin in the same fashion, Bakuchiol and retinol are structurally very different. Retinol is more invasive and can cause negative collateral effects on the most delicate skin, specifically dryness and inflammation. This is why it is forbidden to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, not to mention the negative impact it can have if the user is exposed to UV rays.
On the other hand, Bakuchiol is extremely delicate and well-absorbed by all types of skin, and its qualities do not change with UV ray exposure, making it perfect for summertime.
