Contract Manufacturing Cosmetics: your questions, our answers.

For over 60 years, we have been manufacturing private label cosmetics for companies, emerging brands, and large-scale retail chains. During this time, we have answered thousands of questions from businesses looking to launch or expand their cosmetic product lines. We have noticed that many of the same doubts and questions arise, whether our clients are based in Italy or abroad.

That is why we have decided to bring together the answers to the most frequently asked questions in one article—clear, straightforward, and without unnecessary jargon.

If you are considering working with a contract manufacturing cosmetics for your brand, this guide will help you understand how we work, what production timelines to expect, the minimum order quantities, and the guarantees we offer.

Ready to Go or Tailor-Made: which option is best?

This is the very first question almost every client asks us, and it is also the most important one because it influences everything else: timelines, budget, and brand positioning.

The most accurate answer is: it depends on your objectives, your investment, and the market your cosmetic line or product is intended for. There is no universally “better” option there are simply two different solutions that we offer as a contract manufacturing cosmetic.

When ideas are still evolving, our role is also consultative. Not everyone entering the cosmetics industry has the experience needed to evaluate the most suitable and least risky approach, and we are here to help.

Ready to Go Products our Ready to Go solutions are products that are ready for the market. We offer a wide portfolio of pre-developed formulations that have already been tested and comply with European regulations.

Each product is supplied in carefully selected packaging, chosen according to its intended application, and then customized with your own label and logo.

This is the most practical and cost-effective solution for expanding an existing product range, testing the market quickly, reducing time-to-market, and minimizing the initial investment while offering safe, high-quality cosmetics.

Tailor made Development if your goal is to launch a product that does not yet exist on the market, our in-house R&D department develops an exclusive formulation based on your project brief.

We can create a completely new formula from scratch, defining its texture, fragrance, and performance, or start from one of our existing formulations and customize it—for example, by replacing or enhancing specific active ingredients.

In short: Ready to Go is the ideal choice for speed and lower investment, while Tailor-Made is the right solution for creating a truly unique and distinctive cosmetic product.

What is the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?

After choosing between Ready to Go and Tailor-Made, the next question is almost always: “How many units do I need to order to get started?”

The minimum order quantity depends on the type of production and the target market.

We have deliberately chosen to keep our MOQs flexible. We understand that many businesses want to start sustainably without tying up excessive capital in inventory.

  • If You Are a Retailer: The minimum order starts from just 12 units per SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) for products from our Private Label catalogue. This quantity allows even small businesses – or companies wishing to test a new market – to launch their own cosmetic line with minimal risk.
  • If you already have an established business: we generally recommend to start from approximately 500 units for Ready to Go and starting from 1,000 units for a Tailor Made formula.

Although we operate with certified processes and a highly structured manufacturing organization, we have intentionally kept our minimum quantities reasonable. They are specifically designed to support your cosmetic business.

Are your formulas natural, organic, and dermatologically tested?

Yes—and this is one of our core commitments. Natural and certified cosmetics are our primary area of expertise.

We formulate products with a very high percentage of naturally derived ingredients, typically between 95% and 98%, always prioritizing clean, environmentally responsible formulations.

Our commitment includes:

  • Clean INCI: free from silicones, parabens, mineral oils, and microplastics.
  • Skin safety: all Ready to Go formulations are dermatologically tested and undergo specific heavy metal analyses, including nickel testing.
  • Green and organic approach: we develop products that comply with leading organic and sustainable cosmetic standards, creating stable and safe formulations suitable even for sensitive, blemish-prone, or acne-prone skin.

If a brand wants to communicate values such as naturalness, sustainability, and safety in a credible way, those values must be reflected in the formulation itself—not simply stated on the label.

Do You Offer a Full-Service, Turnkey Solution?

Absolutely.

If you wish, we manage the entire production process—from the initial concept to the finished product ready for retail—allowing you to focus on developing your brand while we take care of both the operational and regulatory complexities.

Our process typically includes:

  1. Initial Briefing and Sampling: we begin by understanding your objectives and preparing product samples for testing and evaluation.
  2. Packaging and Graphic Design: we help you select the most suitable packaging, including bottles, jars, plastic or glass containers, soft-touch finishes, screen printing, different material thicknesses, as well as secondary packaging such as custom boxes and premium finishing options.
  3. Safety Assessment and Product Information File (PIF) we prepare all the regulatory documentation required for marketing your products in Europe and, where applicable, in international markets.
  4. Manufacturing and Packaging: production is carried out according to certified quality standards, including ISO 9001 and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP – ISO 22716).

In short, Camorak Cosmetic Laboratories support you from a blank sheet of paper to a finished product on the shelf, providing a single point of contact throughout the entire project.
